Reasons to include ham in our diet

Ham is an essential part of the Mediterranean diet in our country, it is a balanced product with great nutritional value. At Cuixot we believe that recommending any food product for inclusion in the daily diet is the exclusive job of the doctor or the But we do want to solve some of the doubts that most frequently arise when we are faced with its consumption. What role will it play in a low-calorie diet? Is ham good for children? And during pregnancy?... Of course, we do not want to substitute health professionals at any time, as they know the totality of the circumstances of each case.

Ham in Hypocaloric Diets

The caloric value of Iberian ham is similar to that of bread and much lower than that of other foods of animal origin. That is why, like so many other balanced foods, it can be included in most low-calorie diets in a moderate way

Ham and Hypertension

High consumption of salt at a particular time (e.g. bingeing on olives) does not produce immediate adverse health effects. However, there is evidence that continued high salt intake is associated with increased blood pressure. Therefore, if what you are passionate about is ham and you are hypertensive, consult your doctor: he will tell you how much you can consume regularly, he will indicate other Iberian sausages with less sodium chloride (it can be a unique opportunity to discover the Iberian acorn-fed loin) or he will indicate if in your case it is not important

Ham and children

In a society that looks to the Mediterranean diet, fleeing from childhood obesity, looking back is sometimes a step forward. Remember those chorizo sandwiches that Grandma used to give you for a snack. And now think that, if they are Iberian sausages, you will be preparing them with animal products with a higher proportion of heart-healthy fats. In short, a healthy food, rich and ideal for children's and young people's diets; far removed from the nutritional problems that affect young people today. However, the snack: of bakery bread. No industrial bakery that spoils the care you take in selecting the protagonist of the snack.

Ham and Pregnancy

The high content of folic acid and its derivatives, the concentration of vitamins B1, B6 and B12 essential for the development of the nervous system and its nutritional richness make Iberian ham an ideal food for pre-pregnancy and pregnancy diets. In any case, consult your doctor, only he knows your specific needs and will be able to design a diet or eating guidelines that take into account all your needs.
